Once again it’s that time of year when the planning and organisation for the next Jersey rally begins, at this point I would just like to say there is a strong team (some old, some new) on board this year and that I am very pleased that they have all offered to help out.

There is a PR meeting being held on:

 7^th February 2013, 7.30pm at The Priory Inn.

This is where I would like to stress to you that the event has gotten fairly big over the last few years and getting people out to help is getting harder, please remember that we are here to put on an event for you and that any help in any area would be welcome, we also understand that without you there is no event, this is where I would be very grateful if we could all work together to put on another great Jersey Rally.

As we are now into 2013 the event is only 37 weeks away, our first committee meeting has taken place and the following event format was proposed by the committee:

2 stages Friday Afternoon, run 4 times.

2 stages Friday Evening, run 3 times.

2 stages Saturday Morning, run 4 times.

2 stages Saturday Afternoon, run 4 times.

That gives us the potential to have 30 stages with a total of 120 stage miles, this is all with the proviso that the PR, Constables and TTS are all in favor.

This brings me nicely onto the selection criteria for this year’s event which has been voted as:

40 – Local Jersey entries will be taken on a first come basis, as long as the driver and navigator have assisted with PR work, or undertaken any task requested of them, by an official of the committee of the Jersey rally. They must also meet the required marshal requirements.  

30 – Overseas entries will be on a first come basis

The remaining entries will be selected at the discretion of the Jersey rally committee.

Any novice Drivers will be requested to have competed in at least 1 stage rally.

Any novice Navigator will be requested to have competed in at least 1 stage rally and or Navigational.

PR (public relations) is a crucial area for any event, even more so on island 9×5 miles, all households on the stages and those affected by the road closure need to be visited and the residents need to be clearly informed on what is going to happen. That the road will be officially closed from the times stated, this is usually over a 5 hour period. They will not be prisoners in their own homes but movements really do need to be kept to a minimum, the more movements that we have the less likely there will be of getting all the runs through the stages, always be courteous and polite as you are representing the Jersey rally.

However although PR is very important there are a lot of other jobs that we require assistance for, equipment, letter drops, stakes being put out, etc if you also feel that there is an area in the official side of things that you would like to learn about just ask, as for all of us officials to pass on information is what keeps this event going.

As a committee we are striving to ensure continuous improvement each year, we are not trying to make things hard for you by making you do things that you are not interested in or willing to do, The Jersey rally means having to organise a lot of simple to more complex things, there is only so many hours out of our “normal” life’s a week that we can do, every bit that you can put into help, helps us concentrate on getting the best that we can for you.

If you feel you have a good idea or you feel you could give more time to the event, please contact a committee member and we will bring it to our meetings, I would like to do a few updates throughout the year just to keep you all posted with what is going on.

I have arranged for Bill from Bill Bwynne Rally School to undertake the the Bars Test on Saturday the 8th of December, Cost is £250, a £150 non-refundable is required to secure your place, with the remaining £100 due by the 1st December.

Time depending lunch at the Farm House before the classroom session in the afternoon, I am awaiting the menus at the moment. (Depending on numbers this could change to a packed lunch during the classroom.)

You will need to purchase the MSA ‘GO RALLYING’ Starter Pack direct from the MSA before hand and make sure you have read through the pack and watched the DVD that accompanies it.
